I've been so lazy about the yard this spring. I haven't planted anything new, or even pulled old growth out of the flower bed, and yet there are pretty things to see back there.
Oh wait, I did plant a tomato plant in a pot--the larger tomatoes in the picture. But those smaller tomatoes came up from little tomatoes that fell into the dirt last year, so there are 2 different kinds of tomatoes in this pot.
The black Spanish grapes are forming. Soon the grape arbor will be covered with bunches of little purple grapes. These are the grapes we used last year in Lily's wild grape jelly--they are so small and full of seeds they aren't good for eating, but they made delicious jelly.
Do you see the little honeybee visitor in the esperanza flower? These are also called yellow bells, and bloom all over South Texas for at least 6 months of the year.
We've had the plumbago bush for several years. It never has as many blooms as the ones we see around the neighborhood because it is planted under a tree and needs more sun. I love the flowers--especially the color, but also the simplicity of the blooms. They look so sweet and old-fashioned.
