Fourth Sunday After Easter

Today is also known as Cantate Sunday, for the first words of the Introit from Psalm 97, "Cantate Domino canticum novum..." (Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle...").

Our Lord Jesus Christ is risen from the dead; the power of God is made manifest and is exalted.

The Roman Missal, 1962

In today's Gospel from St. John 6. 5-14, Jesus tells His disciples that He must go to the Father, and that if He does not go, the Paraclete will not come to them, but if He goes He will send the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, to them. He tells them that the Paraclete will convince the world of sin and of justice and judgment, and that the Spirit will teach them "all truth."

Collect for today:
O God, who makest the faithful to be of one mind and will: grant to Thy people the grace to love what Thou dost command and to desire what Thou dost promise, that amid the changes of the world, our hearts may there be fixed where true joys are to be found. Through our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with Thee and Thy Holy Ghost, one God now and forever.
Amen
