Historic St. Andrews

Ron's conference ended around noon today, so we had time to be "tourists" for awhile. We drove into Historic St. Andrews for lunch on the waterfront. We ate at Uncle Ernie's Bayfront Grill and Brew House. It is in an old house built in the 1800s and moved to the bay. I had fried oysters again, and Ron had talapia and the house ale. Everything was yummy.

We walked along the harbor, looking at the boats, seagulls and pelicans. We saw this really old beat up shrimp boat. I didn't think it was still being used until Ron pointed out the coolers at the back of the deck. Shrimp fishing was the backbone of St. Andrews economy in the past.

And we saw this cool sail boat that reminded me of a pirate ship with it's teak and black colors.

There were quite a few boats for sale. Many of the boats were charter fishing boats. What an interesting way to make a living.

When we left the harbor, we drove into downtown old St. Andrews, and around the coastline. Some of the houses facing the bay are so gorgeous--old southern homes with gallery porches, columns, huge trees with Spanish moss hanging from their branches. I loved seeing them.

We headed back into Panama City Beach and stopped at a bead store not far from our hotel. I got some cute little brass turtles and a string of greenish beads. The guy at the bead shop had some beads that were over 100 years old--wow!

We got back to the hotel just before sunset again, but there were big dark clouds hiding the sunset this evening. I still walked out on the pier, but I'll put those pics in another post.
