Last week the puppies were introduced to the pool. Kelly gently put them in at the steps, and they immediately wanted out again.
Darcy watched over them closely the whole time they were near or in the pool.
A couple of days ago, Sister watched as I splashed some grass and debris out of their water container, then she put her paw in the water and splashed, too. Pretty soon she had both feet in, and Katy joined her in the fun. :o)
Today while the kids and I were in the pool the puppies came up to the side, where they are in the picture. They were bouncing around and Sister fell in. I picked her up and put her on the side again, and she immediately jumped back in and came swimming to me, followed closely by Katy! It was the cutest thing, but now I'll have to watch them like a hawk to make sure they don't go swimming in the deep end where they may not be able to climb out.
I was reading online about adopting litter mates, and the consensus seems to be that it's not a good idea, especially if they are the same sex. But since that decision has already been made and I would never give one of them up now, I'll be training them independently. I took Kate with me to Mom's today, leaving Sister at home. Ron said Sissy only cried and whined for a few minutes before she lay down and took a nap. Katy was fine, too. She seemed to enjoy the car ride and the visit with Mom and Teddy. Tomorrow I'll take Sister out alone. I already feed them separately, and will get another crate so that they each have their own den.
Last night Ron and I had all of the grandchildren while their parents went to a movie. This afternoon, they were all here again while the mommys went shopping and out to eat. I got in the pool with Caelen, Lyssa, Lily, Jacob and Reece while Ron and Jason stayed inside with Aubrey and Camryn. Josh went home to mow his grass. The kids and I spent a long time in the pool, and when I went inside, Jason was sitting on the couch watching TV while holding a sleeping Camryn, with Aubrey asleep next to him. What a sweet picture!
This evening the guys grilled salmon and tuna with herbs and lemon for supper. I made steamed rice and broccoli, and we had ice cream sundaes for dessert. The kids were ravenous after being in the pool for hours, and everything was delicious.
Tomorrow we'll have another cookout, then go watch a fireworks show when it's dark. Wishing all of my readers a Happy Independence Day!

Awww, they're so cute! So, why is it discouraged to adopt from the same litter?
Enjoy your Independence Day!!
Sarah, some articles I read said that littermates may not bond with the owner as well since they are more bonded with the sibling, but so far I've not had that problem. Both Katy and Sister seem to love me, and I'm being sure to spend one on one time with each of them without the other. Another article said that littermates may become very aggressive with each other as they get older. I guess we'll have to wait to find out if that happens, but I'll do everything I can to raise them to be healthy, well-balanced dogs, as independent of one another as possible.
