A Good First Week of School

Reece is still enjoying school very much, eager and excited to go every day. I'm so happy that he likes it!

He usually joins me in my room after school. He talks, has a snack, we watch videos and play, and he rests. So far he hasn't had much "homework."

When Papa gets home from work, Reece leaves me to go swimming and play outside. Then there's dinner, bath and bedtime. The day goes quickly!

Josh and I have had a little break from taking Gran's meds to her since Wednesday (Kelly is doing is it Wed-Fri), so we stopped on the way home from the hospital to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel yesterday. That was fun.

I'm off to shower and get ready for the day. Not sure what the weekend will bring, but I hope you have a great one!

Dear Kalona,

I want to tell you a little story of how your blog has affected my life. I have a son, nearly grown, who has a personality problem that is serious and ongoing. It is a great concern to me and has been for some years. One day, about 3 years ago I was praying in Mass -- in a quiet Mass in a little chapel full of children. I was so worried about my son. I am not one to ask God for signs, for I know that he may choose not to give a sign but still answer the prayer. But I did ask for a sign that somehow it would all be all right. It was Lent, but I asked that I might hear a certain word that day. Not a Lent word, an Advent word. I was immediately sorry I had done this, and I took my request back. I did not immediately forget that request, but by the end of the day I had forgotten. I was surfing the web that evening, looking at Catholic Mom blogs, as my children call them. I found yours and read your conversion story and in that story was my word, three times. It was spelled differently than I knew, but it was my word. The word was Immanuel. This was and still is a great consolation to me. My child is really not doing very well at all. He is struggling terribly with his problem. But, I do remember the day I read Immanuel on your blog and I try to take heart and know that while he suffers, this can, with increased friendship between him and Jesus, resolve in a good way. I am praying for you and for your recovery. You are such a dear and lovely woman and clearly so precious to your family. May Jesus heal you of cancer and keep you ever close to him and to his Mother, Mary. For he is our Emmanuel, yours and mine.

with every good wish from a Catholic Mom

Dear Anonymous,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. It touches my heart that you have received consolation through the words, "Immaneul/Emmanuel" because that word has always been very special to me, too, since I became a Christian. When things get bad, we can always whisper "Emmaneul," and it reminds us immediately that "God is with us."

I promise to pray for you and your son, and will offer up any pain or difficulties during this coming week especially for him.

Thank you for your prayers for me. May Our Emmanuel give you His peace and comfort.

Thank you so much Kalona. I am so grateful for your prayers for my son.

I have just requested a Mass for you and your intentions to be said by the Seraphic Mass Association. I hope it brings you peace and comfort this coming week!

Emmanuel!
